Linn County Seeks Applicants for Veteran Affairs Commission

The Linn County Board of Supervisors is seeking Linn County residents interested in volunteering to serve on the Linn County Veteran Affairs Commission. There is one vacant seat for an unexpired term ending June 30, 2026. The commission establishes the eligibility for assistance, claims and denials, and provides guidance to the Linn County Veteran Services staff.

Commission members must be an honorably discharged veteran, a resident of Linn County, and meet the definition of "veteran" according to Iowa Code, Chapter 35.1. The five-member commission must be represented by all branches of service, to the greatest extent possible. The commission is currently comprised of all male veterans from all branches of service. All branches of service will be considered for appointment to fill this vacancy and the nominee may be of either gender.

Serving on a volunteer commission is an excellent opportunity for Linn County residents to get involved with their local County government.

Linn County residents interested in being considered for an appointment to fill the vacancy on the Linn County Veteran Affairs Commission must submit an online application through Linn County's website LinnCountyIowa.gov or call the Board of Supervisors Office at 319-892-5000 to request a paper copy of the application. Applications are due by October 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. The Veteran Affairs Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month from noon-1 p.m. in Cedar Rapids. Members may serve two consecutive three-year terms. The applicant selected to fill this unexpired term will be eligible to serve two full terms.
