AUC Chairperson met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sudan

H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, met with H.E. Mohieldin Salem Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of the Sudan, in New York, on the margins of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.

Discussions focused on the situation in Sudan and ongoing efforts towards a sustainable ceasefire, the protection of civilians and safe, unhindered humanitarian access. They also reviewed the process, already initiated by the African Union Commission, to reopen the African Union Liaison Office in Khartoum, strengthening the AU's engagement with Sudanese stakeholders and support for an inclusive political process.

The Chairperson reaffirmed the African Union's commitment to Sudan's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its support for an inclusive, Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned political solution towards the restoration of peace, stability and constitutional order.
