Eastbound I-70 ramp to U.S. 54 to close overnight for two weeks

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Route 54 ramp from eastbound Interstate 70 in Kingdom City is set to close overnight for two weeks beginning next week. The north outer road is expected to remain open throughout these nightly closures.

From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night beginning Sept. 30, and continuing through Oct. 14, the eastbound I-70 ramp to U.S. 54 at Exit 148 will close, and eastbound I-70 will narrow to one lane from Callaway County Route M (mile marker 144) to U.S. 54. These changes are necessary for construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation to continue paving the eastbound lanes of I-70 and move barriers.

Motorists on eastbound I-70 will be directed to exit at Route M/Hatton (Exit 144) and use the north outer road to U.S. 54. The ramp from U.S. 54 to eastbound I-70 is expected to remain open except for brief intervals to move equipment. Westbound access at Exit 148 will not be impacted.

Motorists are advised to slow down, use extra caution, and follow posted signs and traffic control devices.

All work is weather-permitting and schedules are subject to change.

This work is part of the first project in MoDOT's Statewide Improve I-70 Program, Improve I-70: Columbia to Kingdom City, which will add a third lane of travel in each direction to the 20-mile stretch of I-70 between Columbia and Kingdom City. This $405 million fixed-cost contract includes new pavement on all three lanes of I-70 and will also make interchange improvements to the I-70 interchanges at U.S. Route 63 and U.S. Route 54.

Missouri's FY2024 budget, approved through the state legislative process and governor provides, $2.8 billion in General Revenue to build a third lane of I-70 across the state. The program will plan, design, construct, reconstruct, rehabilitate, and add a third lane in each direction on nearly 200 miles of I-70, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
