Governor Abbott, TWC Announce Over $24,000 Job Training Grant to Concho Valley Workforce Development Board

AUSTIN ⎯ Governor Greg Abbott today announced a Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant award totaling $24,961 to Concho Valley Workforce Development Board by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). Through this grant, Concho Valley Workforce Development Board will provide customized training for 37 new and current workers at Long Industries for high demand occupations in advanced flux core welding in partnership with Howard College.

"Texas leads the nation in job creation and economic growth because we continue to invest in the skills of our workforce," said Governor Greg Abbott. "This Skills Development Fund grant will empower workers at Long Industries with cutting-edge welding training, help businesses thrive, and give hardworking Texans more opportunities to build better careers right here in the Lone Star State."

"The Skills Development Fund is an incredible tool to bridge the gap between employers' needs and workers' skills," said TWC Chairman Joe Esparza. "The partnership between Concho Valley Workforce Development Board and Long Industries Inc. highlights how the SDF grant program is helping Texas employers gain a competitive edge while elevating the skills of the regional workforce."

Earlier today, Chairman Esparza presented the award to representatives from Concho Valley Workforce Development Board, Long Industries, Howard College, and other local partners during a ceremony held at Long Industries in San Angelo. SDF is the state's workforce training grant program to help businesses upskill their new or incumbent workforce. In partnership with the public community and technical colleges, workforce development boards, and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, TWC collaborates to provide customized, innovative training to Texas businesses of all sizes.

The SDF grant program has provided training opportunities in partnership with more than 5,000 employers to upgrade or support the creation of over 446,000 jobs throughout Texas since the program's inception in 1996.
