The City of Fairfield is proud to announce that its Police Transparency and Crime Analysis System, an internal GIS-powered platform used by the Fairfield Police Department for crime analysis and operational intelligence, has been selected as a 2026 Single Process Distinguished System by the Geospatial Professional Network (GPN) Exemplary Systems in Geospatial (ESIG) Awards Committee.
The national recognition highlights Fairfield's innovative use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to support public safety operations and data-driven decision-making. The system provides a public facing data hub that give residents an easy way to view crimes, traffic collision, and case information, strengthening trust through open data. Internally, the system provides Fairfield Police Department personnel with interactive dashboards, maps, weekly crime reviews, and analytical tools focused on crime trends, service calls, traffic incidents, and other public safety information.
The project was a collaborative effort involving Crime Analyst Ashly Settles; GIS team members Jorge Goicochea, Jasmin Acuna, Cambiz Nojoomi, and Nate Murphy; and Steph Bunch and Shawn Smith, who supported the project's award submission. Together, the team transformed complex public safety data into useful information that helps identify trends, reduce manual reporting efforts, and support informed operational decisions.
The project also reflects a collaborative effort across City staff and technology partners, including Geographic Technologies Group (GTG), the City's GIS consulting partner. The team's work demonstrates how GIS and data can be applied to practical public safety challenges while supporting the City's commitment to transparency, innovation, and continuous improvement in public safety services.
"This recognition demonstrates the value of bringing together public safety expertise, GIS, and data," said Police Chief Dan Marshall. "This system gives our personnel practical information to support daily operations and informed decision-making."
The City of Fairfield congratulates everyone who contributed to this achievement and for representing Fairfield on a national stage.
