WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) introduced legislation to designate a United States Postal Service facility in honor of Patricia Paige, longtime member of the New Kent County Board of Supervisors. This legislation renames the USPS facility located at 12109 New Kent Highway, New Kent, VA 23124 from the "New Kent Post Office" to the "Patricia Paige Post Office."
"Patricia Paige was a trailblazer who used her position on the New Kent Board of Supervisors to champion infrastructure improvements, protect seniors from fraud, and invest in opportunities for students and young people," said the senators. "She lived a life of service and leadership, and we are proud to introduce this legislation that will honor her and recognize the important work she did in the community."
Patricia Paige - the first Black woman to serve on the Board of Supervisors and a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves - was a persistent advocate for the replacement of the former New Kent Post Office due to its aging structure and inability to accommodate residents and postal workers. After decades of public service, Patricia sadly passed away from cancer in November 2023.
Companion legislation passed the U.S. House of Representatives on April 14, 2026. The bill was led by Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA-01) and supported by Reps. Jen Kiggans (R-VA-02), Bobby Scott (D-VA-03), Jennifer McClellan (D-VA-04), John McGuire (R-VA-05), Ben Cline (R-VA-06), Eugene Vindman (D-VA-07), Don Beyer (D-VA-08), Morgan Griffith (R-VA-09), Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA-10), and James Walkinshaw (D-VA-11).
