Three media consortia selected to report on European affairs

Following a €7.4 million call for proposals, three European-level projects of newsroom collaborations have been selected. They will contribute to informing Europeans of all backgrounds of European-level development relevant to their daily life.

The call for proposals was published in 2025 and is part of the EU's Multimedia Actions which aim to increase the production and consumption of plural and independent information on European affairs across the European Union, and in many languages. Keep reading to learn about the awarded projects.

Pulse 2

'Pulse 2' project brings together 12 core beneficiaries, among which large-to-medium newsrooms. Partners originate from 12 different EU Member States with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe. The project seeks to have journalists to jointly produce close to 3000 items over two years, including 450 multimedia formats such as podcasts and videos. It will focus extensively on issues close to citizens, from social to environmental issues. Pulse 2 aims to cover 22 European languages by the time the project finishes.

The project would also extend to an outer layer of partnering newsrooms and journalists to maximise impact beyond the consortium - with an aim to reach two million individuals across Europe.

The project is coordinated by the Centro per la Cooperazione Internazionale/Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso and the consortium is composed of Delfi (Lithuania), Denik Referendum (Czechia), Der Standard (Austria), EfSyn (Greece), El Confidencial (Spain), Gazeta Wyborcza (Poland), HotNews (Romania), HVG (Hungary), Il Sole 24 Ore (Italy), Mediapool (Bulgaria), n-ost (Germany), OBCT (Italy), and Voxeurop (France. This project builds on a similar action financed in 2024-2025 by the Multimedia Actions.

  • Duration: 24 months (from 1 April 2026)

BEAM

BEAM (Building and engaging European Audiences) is a project coordinated by Arte and pools together 15 newsrooms from 11 countries. It aims to produce more than 30 in-depth articles, and around 400 audiovisual pieces of diverse formats, including a flagship weekly 10-minute programme, shorter formats for younger audiences, investigative video reports and documentaries.

The consortium is composed of ARTE from France (coordinator), El País from Spain, Gazeta Wyborcza from Poland, Internazionale from Italy, Kathimerini from Greece, Le Soir from Belgium, Telex.hu from Hungary, ir.lv and LPM from Latvia, the BIRN hub (Romania and the Balkan Region), ORF from Austria, RTBF from Belgium, Arte Deutschland (from Germany), RTVE from Spain. This project builds on a similar action financed in 2024-2025 by the Multimedia Actions.

  • Duration: 24 months (from 1 March 2026)

LENS EU

LENS EU (Localised European News Service) is a consortium of 9 organisations active in media and addressing directly audiences in six countries.
The project will focus on having newsrooms to work together on the production of flagship podcasts and newsletters on European affairs. Altogether, close to 400 news pieces will be delivered, aiming to reach 100,000 users every month. The consortium will focus on topics such as geopolitics and security, democracy and civic space as well as economy and inequalities.

The partners of OKO.press for this project are AFP (France), DiePresse (Austria), CORRECTIV (Germany), ENEX (Luxembourg), Telegram.hr (Croatia), TVNET GRUPA (Latvia), Magyar Hang (Hungary) and Mainspring (Austria).
