Reporter note: New Housing Connect Datasets

December 30, 2025- Reporter note: New Housing Connect Datasets

Reporter Note:

Hi all --

We wanted to flag two important new datasets that are available on Open Data for researchers, reporters, and most importantly, every day New Yorkers. For the first time, we are publishing two new housing lottery datasets.

Some examples of queries one might explore with these data include:

  • How many units were advertised in calendar year 2023 in Brooklyn?
  • How many lotteries are currently leasing up in the Bronx?
  • How many Very Low Income lottery units have been made available since 2020?

The first dataset, Advertised Lotteries on Housing Connect by Lottery will be helpful for finding:

  • The lottery status (All Units Filled or Tenant Selection),
  • The preferences for each lottery (% of units with preference for municipal employees, NYCHA residents, etc.),
  • Location (Borough, Community Board, Postcode ),
  • Number of units by income level (extremely low income, very low income, middle income, etc.),
  • Unit size distribution (1-BR, 2-BR, 3-BR, etc.),
  • And more about individual lotteries that have been advertised since July of 2020.

The second dataset, which we anticipate will be used as a complement to the first one, contains information about housing lotteries that have been advertised on Housing Connect since July 2020 at the building level. This dataset, Advertised Lotteries on Housing Connect By Building, will allow you to see the:

  • Location Detail (Address, Borough-Block-Lot, Community Board, Council District, Census Tract),
  • Number of units by income level (extremely low income, very low income, middle income, etc.),
  • Unit size distribution (1-BR, 2-BR, 3-BR, etc.),
  • And more about lotteries by building advertised on Housing Connect since July of 2020.

Our team has been working hard to get these datasets ready for publication, and we are very excited that we are able to share them with all of you! Please let us know if you have any questions.

All the best,

HPD Press Team
