Play Readers Club: Oh, Dread! It’s Stead!
Join Our Productions Theatre Co. for its free Play Readers Club: Oh, Dread! It's Stead! performance on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 7 p.m., at Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street.
Adults ages 18 and older of all experience levels are invited to read a role or simply listen, followed by a discussion with writers, directors and producers. No acting experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome.
The featured script for November is Oh, Dread! It's Stead! by Colin Speer Crowley.
This play follows the true story of W. T. Stead, Editor of The Pall Mall Gazette, in 1880's London, and his wild campaign to get a bill through Parliament to protect young girls being sold into prostitution. A relentless, larger-than-life self-promoter, there is nothing Stead won't pull out of his hat to get the bill passed - but when this includes the orchestrated purchase and abduction of a thirteen-year-old girl from her own mother, we are left to question how far is too far when the cause is just.

The Grand is Lewisville's home for the arts. It presents a variety of regional and national touring performers, art exhibits, and classes, while also giving the many arts groups in the greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works. Its multiple performance spaces play host to a variety of events including live music, theater, dance performances, comedy shows, and more. The center features the 294-seat Huffines Performance Hall, black box theater, recital hall, art gallery, and courtyard.
To reach The Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Please be aware that there is heavy road construction at the Main Street interchange with I-35E that will cause delays.
