Visitors enjoy research exhibits and activities under sunny skies during UAF's Arctic Research Open House in May 2025.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host its annual Arctic Research Open House from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, on the West Ridge of the Troth Yeddha' Campus in Fairbanks.

This free, family-friendly event is an opportunity for the community to discover the research that's rooted in Fairbanks and sprouts solutions for Alaska and the Arctic. Each stop at the open house provides an opportunity to participate in activities, meet the scientists, watch live demos or earn free prizes.

There will be opportunities to:

  • Explore permafrost and fossils
  • Fly a drone simulation
  • Measure Earth's vibrations
  • See Arctic tundra in virtual reality
  • Cycle to power electricity
  • Get your Veggie Meter score
  • Hop into an Arctic survival suit
  • See climate change in Alaska
  • Learn about science through art

To celebrate the Fairbanks community and the work happening across campus, the UAF vice chancellor for research will host a free ice cream social.

The event is free and open to all ages. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Free public parking is available in lots along Koyukuk Drive. Visit the event website or Facebook page for more information.
