Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović received the newly appointed Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Montenegro, H.E. Chen Xufeng, on his inaugural visit.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović extended a warm welcome to the Ambassador and wished him a successful mandate in Montenegro, expressing confidence that his engagement will contribute to further strengthening the friendly and partnership-based relations between the two countries. He emphasized that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2006, Montenegro and China have built stable and substantive ties founded on mutual respect and open dialogue.
In this context, Ivanović highlighted major projects implemented in cooperation with Chinese companies, including the priority section of the Bar-Boljare highway and the reconstruction of the Đurđevića Tara Bridge. He underlined that Chinese companies are welcome to participate in future infrastructure projects in Montenegro through transparent and competitive tendering procedures, in line with public procurement laws, as well as in other areas of mutual interest.
Special emphasis was placed on cooperation in education, culture, and science, where China represents one of Montenegro's most significant partners. At the same time, the growing number of Chinese tourists visiting Montenegro confirms the potential for further promotion of Montenegro as a destination in the Chinese market and the strengthening of people-to-people ties.
Ambassador Chen Xufeng expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and said he was pleased to begin his mandate in what he described as a friendly and hospitable Montenegro. He underlined his commitment to advancing overall cooperation and deepening relations between the two countries, noting that the results achieved so far provide a solid foundation for the future.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović stressed that Montenegro, as a NATO member and EU candidate country, conducts its foreign policy based on the principles of partnership and openness to cooperation with all states, while remaining mindful of Montenegro's strategic and foreign policy priorities. He expressed his belief that relations with China will continue to develop in this spirit, through concrete projects and initiatives that contribute to the well-being of citizens in both countries.
The interlocutors agreed that next year, marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Montenegro and China, represents an important opportunity to further affirm the friendship and partnership between the two countries.
