WASHINGTON, D.C. - Representative John McGuire joined his colleagues in the Virginia Republican Delegation in a letter of support requesting a Disaster Designation for the Agricultural Industry, following severe freezes that damaged crops and left farmers struggling.
Rep. McGuire is joined by Representative Rob Wittman (VA-01), Representative Morgan Griffith (VA-09), Representative Ben Cline (VA-06), and Representative Jen Kiggans (VA-02), in sending a letter to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins for the USDA Secretarial Disaster Designation due to the April 2026 severe freeze that significantly damaged crops across the Commonwealth.
"Virginia's agriculture industry is a staple in the Commonwealth, providing over 440,000 jobs," said Rep. John McGuire (VA-05). "Between the forestry and agriculture sectors, there's also a combined economic impact of $91 billion. Making sure our farmers have what they need to thrive is a priority. After the repeated severe-freezes Virginia experienced earlier this year, it is critical we provide our farmers and growers with the resources they need to regrow their crops and recoup financial losses. I was proud to join this letter with my colleagues supporting the request for disaster designation."
