Duke Energy, Mayor Sakbun team up to give Terre Haute an ‘energy makeover’

  • Joint awareness campaign connects residents to free in-home energy assessments, personalized savings reports and energy-saving kits to help reduce energy bills this winter

  • Duke Energy representatives will be at City Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 29, to help residents sign up

PLAINFIELD, Ind. - Duke Energy and the city of Terre Haute are launching a joint awareness campaign to connect local residents to tools and resources to help keep their heating costs lower this winter season.

The effort aims to encourage residents to take advantage of free in-home energy assessments through Duke Energy's Home Energy House Call program. Qualifying customers can have an energy efficiency specialist visit their home to analyze their total home energy usage and check the efficiency of their appliances and heating/cooling systems. Based on the information collected, Duke Energy's experts will give customers a customized report detailing steps they can take to increase efficiency and lower their energy bills.

"Making energy efficiency upgrades to your home is one of the most practical steps Terre Haute families can take to manage their energy costs this winter," said Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun. "By teaming up with Duke Energy, we're giving residents a simple, free way to make their homes more efficient and lower their monthly bills. It's an easy win for Terre Haute families and a great example of what can happen when we work together to deliver real value to our community. I know that utility bills can be a major part of a household's budget, and I'm thankful that Duke Energy came to the city with ideas to help residents in need."

Along with the free assessment report, customers will receive an energy efficiency kit in the mail that includes bathroom aerators, weatherstripping, water heater insulation pipe wrap and a furnace filter whistle that can be self-installed to see immediate savings.

"We are excited to partner with Mayor Sakbun to bring Home Energy House Call to more customers across Terre Haute," said Stan Pinegar, president of Duke Energy Indiana. "It's a great way for families to get personalized recommendations and insights to help them save energy and ultimately money on their energy bills each month."

The Home Energy House Call program is available to Duke Energy customers in single-family homes, condominiums, townhomes or manufactured homes with an electric water heater, electric heat or central air conditioning.

The company also offers virtual, phone and online assessment options. To learn more and sign up, visit Home Energy House Call or call 844.346.4366. Duke Energy will also have representatives at Terre Haute City Hall on Monday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to sign customers up for the program and offer information on electric bill management programs, energy assistance funds and energy efficiency programs.

Additional support

In addition to Home Energy House Call, Duke Energy offers programs for payment flexibility through its Budget Billing, Pick Your Due Date and Installment Payment Plan options.

For customers who qualify, Duke Energy's partnerships with community and state agencies can help them access state and federal assistance, including:
