American Job Center Career Exploration Events set for June, July

Program offers hands-on introduction to skilled trades and high demand industries

The American Job Center (AJC) invites youth ages 14 through 24 to a pair of Future-Ready Career Exploration Days events June 2 through 4 and July 14 through 16. The free events will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day in Multipurpose Rooms U102/U104, Southeast Community College, 8800 "O" St.

The events will introduce participants to high-demand, high-skill, high-wage careers in HVAC and plumbing, electrical, and automotive technician fields. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost to participants. To register for an entire three-day event or individual days according to career interests, visit the registration page.

"Career Exploration Days will give young people the opportunity to experience hands-on learning while exploring career pathways that are essential to Lincoln's future workforce," said Dylan Wren, Workforce Administrator. "By connecting youth and young adults to training opportunities and in-demand careers, we are helping build a stronger workforce and expanding economic opportunity in our community."

Participants will engage in interactive activities, tours, demonstrations, and workforce readiness experiences led by industry professionals and training partners. The program is designed to help youth and young adults better understand career opportunities in the skilled trades and the education and training pathways available to enter those careers.

Exposing young people to career opportunities early can help strengthen Lincoln's future workforce pipeline.

"These industries offer strong wages, long-term career growth, and opportunities for hands-on, meaningful work," Wren said. "Career Exploration Days are designed to help participants see what these careers look like firsthand and understand the pathways available to them."

The Future-Ready Career Exploration Days initiative is supported through collaboration among community workforce, industry, and education partners, including the American Job Center, Southeast Community College and the City of Lincoln.
