Northwest Missouri State University on Wednesday honored employees who exhibit a positive influence on its academic community through their dedication, collegiality and unassuming excellence.

The Academic Impact Awards, which the University presented for the fifth consecutive year, were announced during a meeting of staff and faculty who are involved with academic affairs units at Northwest.

The awards were presented this fall to Paula McLain, senior human resources generalist in the Office of Human Resources, and the staff comprising the Office of the Registrar. Summaries of their nominations are provided below.

McLain's contribution to the campus has always been as a consistent leader in guiding Northwest's student employment program. The 2025-26 academic year was particularly demanding due to both external factors, such as revised state minimum wage requirements, and internal factors such as the University's implementation of Workday.

Additionally, in the absence of a position in the Graduate Office, McLain assisted the graduate dean with the graduate assistantship for several months. McLain continuously and tirelessly served the institution, including academic units, throughout a particularly challenging year with student employment changes at Northwest.
