WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) sent a letter to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Small Business Administration (SBA) urging them to support small businesses working to bring down housing costs. High housing costs are squeezing hardworking Nevadans, and small businesses, particularly those in the construction industry, that work to lower costs need more federal support.
"Small businesses play an important role in addressing the housing crisis, with the vast majority of homebuilders and specialty contractors nationwide qualifying as small businesses and over 20,000 small construction businesses calling Nevada home: The housing industry is an important contributor to Nevada's economy, providing good-paying jobs to thousands of Nevadans and helping develop flourishing neighborhoods across the state," wrote Senator Rosen. "However, burdensome tariffs, lack of skilled labor, and increased construction costs have created a challenging environment for homebuilders, and obtaining the financing necessary to build affordable housing can be an arduous process."
Senator Rosen also said, "High home prices and a severe affordable housing shortage have contributed to an untenable housing market for renters and homebuyers in Nevada and across the country. To address the housing affordability crisis impacting our communities, we must do more to support the homebuilders, contractors, and other small businesses in the housing industry that are already working to tackle this issue."

Senator Rosen has been fighting to lower housing costs for Nevada families. She introduced the Housing Oversight and Mitigating Exploitation Act, which would crack down on price gouging by corporate investors who are buying up housing stock and driving up home prices. Senator Rosen also helped introduce a bill that would provide a tax credit for first-time homebuyers, and recently joined a bipartisan bill to help lower housing costs and incentivize housing development in Nevada. Additionally, Senator Rosen has pushed the Trump Administration to reverse course on imposing tariffs on Canada and Mexico to prevent housing prices from rising even further.
