10th Meeting of Ministers of Education of the SCO Member States takes place in Minsk

On June 16, 2026, the 10th Meeting of Ministers of Education of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states was held in Minsk under the chairmanship of the Belarusian side.

Opening the meeting, Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Ivanets emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships among SCO member states in the educational sphere, expanding academic exchanges, and implementing joint educational programs and research projects.

In his remarks, SCO Deputy Secretary-General Sohail Khan underscored that educational cooperation remains one of the key areas of humanitarian interaction within the Organisation. He highlighted the importance of forming a common SCO educational space, expanding youth and academic exchanges, and training qualified specialists.

Members of the Meeting discussed issues related to improving national education systems, enhancing the quality of personnel training, introducing digital technologies, expanding academic mobility for students and faculty, strengthening ties between universities, and increasing scientific and technical cooperation within the Organization. The parties also discussed priority areas for cooperation in education and science for 2027-2029. A protocol was signed following the meeting.

On the sidelines of the event, a Conference of the SCO University was held, organized by Belarusian State University (BSU) and the SCO University National Rectorate in Belarus. The conference addressed issues of improving network university interaction, enhancing the effectiveness of mechanisms for implementing joint educational programs, and expanding academic ties between higher education institutions of the Organization's member states.

On June 17, the SCO Young Scientists Forum was held at BSU, bringing together representatives of the scientific community from the Organisation's member states to discuss prospects for scientific and technical cooperation, support for youth research initiatives, and the implementation of joint scientific projects.

A tree planting ceremony took place at the "Student Village" complex in Minsk opening the SCO Friendship Alley, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Organisation, symbolizing the strengthening of friendship, mutual trust, and good-neighborliness.
