Exports contribute significantly to small businesses in Ohio, generating $13.4 billion in annual trade value.

Businesses interested in expanding into international markets are invited to attend an informal information session on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Lucille's Jazz Lounge at TolHouse, 1447 N. Summit St., to learn about Export Success, a nationally recognized export assistance program returning to The University of Toledo.

Hosted by the Regional Growth Partnership, the UToledo Family Business Center and the John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation, the event will introduce companies to the Export Success program, provide an overview of the upcoming 2027 cohort and offer opportunities to connect with past participants and program leaders.

Over the past decade, more than 60 companies throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan have benefited from Export Success. Participants have gained valuable insights into international markets through connections with world-class companies, trade agencies and service providers, while developing highly polished, research-based export plans tailored to their businesses.

The program has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Commerce and others as one of the world's premier export assistance programs.

The Aug. 6 event will feature remarks from Paul Zito, vice president of international development for the Regional Growth Partnership, along with representatives from the UToledo Family Business Center and the Neff College of Business and Innovation.

Attendees will also hear from SmartSolve, an award-winning, zero-waste packaging technology company based in Bowling Green. SmartSolve, a past Export Success participant and recipient of the program's Export Plan of the Year award, will share firsthand how the program helped position the company for international growth.

"This event is designed to be an informal opportunity for business leaders to learn more about Export Success, ask questions and hear directly from companies that have experienced the program," said Angie Jones, director of the UToledo Family Business Center. "Whether a company is actively considering exporting or simply exploring future opportunities, we encourage them to join us."

In addition to manufacturers and business owners, the event is also intended for attorneys, accountants, bankers, economic development professionals and other trusted advisors who work with companies that may benefit from international expansion.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to register in advance. Individuals who believe the program may be a good fit for a client, colleague or business contact are welcome to share the invitation.
