If you notice a whirlwind blowing through the TLU campus and beyond beginning on Friday night, March 27, don't worry: That's the sound of a collection of short plays being produced on the fly, and the following evening-a mere 25 hours later-we'll all have the opportunity to see them performed on stage at The Stephen and Mary Birch Texas Theatre.
This year marks the Second Annual 25 Hour Play Festival-an amazing theatrical feat taken on by the students of TLU's TheatreXpress program in conjunction with TLU Dramatic Media and The Texas Theatre. It works like this: Participants meet up on campus at the Studio Theatre on Friday, March 27, at 6:30 p.m. and then, along with their teammates, undertake the almost unthinkable task of creating original short plays which must be written, cast, produced, and ready for the stage 25 hours later.
The students of TheatreXpress say they are excited to invite everyone to participate in the festival-whether as a member of a team creating a play, or as a member of the audience.
"In just 25 hours, participants collaborate as writers, directors, actors, and technicians to create, rehearse, and perform original short plays. The process is fast-paced and energizing, offering a rare opportunity to challenge yourself, explore new roles, and connect with a passionate artistic community."
The students emphasize that all experience levels are welcome to join the fun. "Whether you are an experienced theatre-maker or trying something new for the first time, this festival is designed to be welcoming, supportive, and inspiring. All we ask is your willingness to collaborate, take creative risks, and fully engage in the process. If you are looking to grow as an artist, build meaningful connections, and be part of an exciting creative event, we encourage you to join us."
