PENANG, MALAYSIA (11 APRIL 2026) - In a landmark event for Malaysia's high-tech sector, Penang Chief Minister YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow today officiated the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signing between ViTrox College and UCSI University, alongside the grand opening of the ViTrox Innovation Lab.
This strategic partnership establishes a premier franchise degree programme-the Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering with Honours-delivered entirely within ViTrox's industrial campus in Batu Kawan. By pairing UCSI's academic prestige (Global Top 300) with ViTrox's industrial edge, the collaboration creates a "Living Classroom" where students complete 100% of their degree in a real industry environment.
The newly signed franchise programme is expected to welcome its first intake in September 2026. ViTrox College has already secured provisional approval from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), with final ministry approval currently in progress. This milestone aligns with ViTrox's long-term roadmap to host 5,000 students and graduate 2,000 engineers annually, effectively transforming Batu Kawan into a premier regional hub for innovation and specialised education.
To shape the innovators of tomorrow, the curriculum is delivered through a Work-Based Learning (WBL) framework that places students at the heart of the factory floor. This 100% industrial immersion is anchored by the signature 3-Mentor Model, where every student is guided by an Academic Mentor for theoretical excellence, an Industry Mentor for technical mastery, and a Life Mentor for character building and professional grit. This triple-layered support system ensures that graduates emerge as 'Day-One Ready' leaders, equipped with the holistic competence to drive Malaysia's high-tech future.
Dato' Chu Jenn Weng, President and Group CEO of ViTrox, emphasised the patriotic mission behind the collaboration: For decades, we have been proud to say 'Made in Malaysia.' But now, we must aim higher. We want to raise a generation of technology creators, not just technology users. We want to move the needle to 'Designed and Made by Malaysia.'
Professor Emeritus Datuk. Ts. Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Binti Tapsir, FASc, President and Vice-Chancellor of UCSI University, noted, "By teaming up, UCSI and ViTrox will empower the engineering talents who will drive innovation in Malaysia's semiconductor industry. Mechatronics is pivotal in the IR4.0 revolution, and UCSI is glad to contribute to the growth of a critical national sector."
Dr Janaka Low, Principal of ViTrox College, added:
"ViTrox possesses world-class engineering excellence, and UCSI offers Malaysia's premier engineering programmes. By pairing these two strengths, we are creating a unique ecosystem where students don't just study the future-they build it."
