Allentown-area nonprofits awarded over $130,000 through Erie Insurance Charity Challenge

Nineteen nonprofits benefit from ninth annual Allentown golf tournament
Nineteen Allentown-area nonprofits were awarded over $130,000 through the ninth annual Erie Insurance (ERIE) Charity Challenge golf tournament at Saucon Valley Country Club. Erie Insurance agents competed in the tournament to earn a share of the prize money for a local nonprofit of their choice.
"Erie Insurance is proud to return to Allentown for the ninth annual Charity Challenge," said Jenny Geertson, ERIE's community outreach director. "The tournament is one way ERIE supports the communities where our agents, employees and policyholders live and serve. It also gives us an opportunity to support causes important to our agents while celebrating the work nonprofits do every day to make their communities stronger."
The winning team from Garland Insurance Agency earned the tournament's top prize of $16,000 for Freedom First Rescue. The remaining funds were divided among all charities, with donations ranging from $4,000 to $14,000.
The Erie Insurance Charity Challenge began in 2010 in Erie, Pennsylvania, and expanded to Allentown in 2017. Together, the two tournaments have contributed more than $2 million to nonprofits in those communities. Erie Insurance covers the cost of the events, allowing 100% of entry fees and sponsorships to be donated to charities.
The nonprofits receiving funds in Allentown this year include A Haven, Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic, Blessings of Hope, Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley, Elora J. Khan Foundation, Face to Face, For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, Freedom First Rescue, HEADstrong Foundation, Lauren's Hope Foundation, Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley, The Foundation for Friends of Allentown Schools, The Fund of Hope, The Greater Chambersburg Chamber Foundation, The Sanctuary at Haafsville, Trappe Fire Company, Victory House of Lehigh Valley, West Shore Bureau of Fire and Worthwhile Wear.
