(October 31, 2025) WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Representatives Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) and Gabe Amo (RI-01) and a group of colleagues reintroduced a bipartisan resolution affirming the United States' commitment to global vaccine and immunization efforts through Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Gavi is a public-private partnership that has saved millions of lives by expanding access to lifesaving vaccines in lower-income countries.
Since its founding in 2000, Gavi has helped immunize more than 1.1 billion children in 78 countries, averting an estimated 18.8 million deaths from vaccine-preventable illnesses such as measles, polio, malaria, and Ebola. Gavi's life-changing work has been central to reducing global child mortality by 70 percent in low-income countries, while strengthening health systems and improving economic growth and poverty reduction across the developing world.
"For the last 25 years, Gavi has made historic strides in its life-saving mission to vaccinate over a billion children around the globe," said Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. "As children and families grow healthier, communities thrive and nations become stronger, more stable, and more economically prosperous. In this bipartisan effort, my colleagues and I are affirming continued support for U.S. investment in this vital work. Global health security benefits people abroad and delivers clear dividends here at home through disease prevention, stronger health systems and industries, and sustained economic growth."
"The science is clear, vaccines save lives and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, is critical to making sure communities around the world have access to immunization," said Congressman Gabe Amo. "Gavi has saved millions of lives, including millions of children, and reduced the spread of disease. I am proud to join colleagues from both sides of the aisle on a resolution championing Gavi's essential work and the United States' pivotal role in eradicating preventable disease."

The resolution is endorsed by RESULTS, Shot@Life, United to Beat Malaria, and ONE Campaign.
"RESULTS applauds Representatives Kean and Amo for introducing this resolution to support increased U.S. investment in lifesaving vaccines globally. Gavi is one of the most successful global health efforts in history. It harnesses the latest science and innovation to save lives and protect global health. By pooling demand and shaping vaccine markets, Gavi drives down costs and ensures countries can access safe, affordable vaccines," said Dr. Joanne Carter, Executive Director of RESULTS. "We have been proud to work with members of Congress across the political spectrum to support Gavi over many years. Regardless of party, lawmakers have rightly agreed that no child should die of preventable disease. Strong congressional leadership now will ensure the United States continues its proud legacy of supporting Gavi's lifesaving mission. It will also help prevent between 8-9 million future deaths, mostly among the world's children."
"We are grateful to Representatives Kean, Amo, Salazar, Lawler, and Fitzpatrick for their leadership and commitment to the strong, bipartisan U.S. partnership with Gavi," said Brian Massa, Director of Global Health Advocacy at Shot@Life, and Margaret McDonnell, Executive Director of United to Beat Malaria, in a joint statement. "Through its immunization work in lower-income countries, Gavi has saved more than 20 million lives, protected millions of children with the malaria vaccine, and helped stop countless outbreaks of other diseases from spreading to American shores. We urge Congress to maintain and strengthen its longstanding support for Gavi's lifesaving mission."
"Access to lifesaving vaccines is vital for all the world's children," said Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli, President and CEO of ONE Campaign. "Gavi is a smart investment that has prevented more than 20 million deaths and mobilized 19 countries to fund their own vaccine programs. As the single largest purchaser of U.S.-produced vaccines, Gavi spends more in the U.S. than the U.S. spends on Gavi, supporting American jobs and economic opportunities. We applaud Representative Kean and Representative Amo for their bipartisan leadership to highlight the value of continued U.S. support for Gavi's indispensable work."
Congressman Kean serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
