Welcome to another great year, Terriers! You (hopefully) don't have much homework yet, so take advantage and explore all that Boston University has to offer. Whether you'd like to try your hand at trivia, browse Boston's art scene, or catch a game on Nickerson Field, we've compiled a list of activities to start your fall semester on the right foot.
Boston drag icons Arabella the Goddess and Patty Bourrée will host an evening of bingo in the GSU Metcalf Ballroom, with free boba, while supplies last. There will be many prizes throughout the night, but be sure to stay for the chance to win the grand prize: a MacBook Air. Bring your friends, or come alone and meet some new people!
Thursday, September 4, 8 to 10 pm, George Sherman Union Metcalf Ballroom. Free admission. This event is for BU undergraduates only.
Every fall, the BU Office for the Arts and BU's arts programs collaborate with local organizations to showcase a variety of Boston-based craftsmanship. This outdoor art fair will have internship opportunities, free merch, and a chance to win raffle tickets to see the Boston Ballet's Nutcracker in December. Come and learn more about organizations, such as the BU Art Galleries, BU Study Abroad, the New England Philharmonic, and the Coolidge Corner Theatre.
Friday, September 5, 11 am to 2 pm, GSU Plaza. In the event of rain, the fair will be held in the Ziskind Lounge, GSU second floor. Free admission.
Kick off the fall sports season with BU field hockey. The Terriers will take on the University of Vermont at the 110,000-square-foot New Balance Field in West Campus. If you can't make it in person, get together with a few friends over snacks and catch it on ESPN+.
Friday, September 5, 4 to 7 pm, New Balance Field.
Enjoy the last few warm evenings of summer on Nickerson Field, cheering on the men's soccer Terriers as they face off against Brown University. If you have a sports pass, catch both the field hockey and soccer games before grabbing a late-night bite in the area.
Friday, September 5, 7 to 9 pm, Nickerson Field.
Gather your most trivia-savvy friends for a night of competition, with first place taking home a $500 cash prize. The Student Leadership and Impact Center-formerly the Student Activities Office and the Community Service Center-continues its Weeks of Welcome with a Trivia Night in the George Sherman Union Metcalf Ballroom. Trivia teams can have up to eight members, and there are additional prizes for second and third places. There will be free pizza while it lasts.
Friday, September 5, 8 to 10 pm, George Sherman Union Metcalf Ballroom. Free admission. This event is for BU undergraduates only.
Have you been wanting to join a run club or a community service fraternity? What about a dance troupe or an a cappella group? The semiannual Splash club fest offers all of that and more. Pack a water bottle and head over to Nickerson Field, where you can visit more than 450 student organizations, all in the same space. Make some new friends or spend some time filling your bag with swag. Be prepared; this event can get crowded.
Saturday, September 6, noon to 2:30 pm, Nickerson Field. Free admission.
Shake off your picnic blankets for a night of karaoke at the BU Beach, complete with a live band providing instrumentals. Show off your skills and sing with friends or sit back and see what your classmates can do. Not interested in being on stage? Feel free to sit with the crowd and hum along to throwbacks at your leisure.
Saturday, September 6, 8 to 11 pm, BU Beach, 270 Bay State Road, Boston. Free admission. This event is for BU undergraduates only.
Head over to the east end of the Charles River Campus for a small farmers market at the intersection of the Back Bay, Fenway, and Kenmore Square neighborhoods. Hosted by the Muddy Water Initiative-an advocacy group dedicated to maintaining Boston's Muddy River-the market will feature vendors selling candied apples, dumplings, fresh bread, produce, and more. There will be live music and dog-friendly spaces.
Sundays through October 12, 10 am to 2 pm, Charlesgate Park, 461 Commonwealth Ave., Boston.
The Weekender: September 4 to 7
