Recently, a DTRA Building Partner Capacity team traveled to Bangkok, Thailand under its Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Security Cooperation Engagement Program (CSCEP) authorities to conduct a WMD Incident Command System Course for approximately 30 representatives from the Thailand Maritime Enforcement Command Center and the Royal Thai Navy. The course focused on building chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) operational capacity in Thai maritime domains to re-establish deterrence in the region. Our team instructed Thai partners on developing strategies and effective tactics for CBRNE and WMD-incident response. This engagement ensures Thai participants can analyze an incident, plan and implement a response, evaluate progress, and terminate the emergency phase of an incident.
DTRA OB efforts enhanced Thai maritime security readiness and capabilities while sharing the burden between DTRA OB CSCEP and Thailand in support of USINDOPACOM, as well as further securing Thailand's steadfast commitment to the Proliferation Security Initiative. The engagement also increased public awareness around U.S. counter-WMD efforts to deter regional adversaries.
