Acclaimed saxophonist, composer and educator Adam Larson joins the Wyoming Jazz Ensemble in concert Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.
Tickets are available at www.tix.com/ticket-sales/uwyo/6984, in person or at (307) 766-6666 at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Box Office, Monday through Friday, noon-6 p.m. and one hour before performances.
The program will feature works by Michael Brecker, Adam Larson, Bob Mintzer, Vincent Youmans and John Coltrane.
Described by The New York Times as "the sort of jazz musician who gets flagged early on as a promising talent and then hustles to meet every requirement for success," Larson has established himself as a dynamic force in modern jazz.
Larson earned degrees from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music and was a fixture in the vibrant New York City jazz scene for over a decade. Since relocating to Kansas City, he has taught at several esteemed institutions, including the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory, while continuing to perform in New York City with some of the greatest musicians in the genre. Larson keeps an active schedule with his own groups and as a sideman performing and touring both nationally and internationally.
Larson has recorded nine albums as a leader and is known for his virtuosic performances and original compositions. He is a sought-after clinician, presenting masterclasses at universities worldwide. He has produced numerous original compositions for his own projects and school jazz ensembles. A dedicated educator, he also has served as a mentor for the Grammy Foundation, an adjudicator for the Monterey Jazz Festival Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, and as the creative director for the YoungArts organization regional show.
Directed by Andy Wheelock, the Wyoming Jazz Ensemble is UW's premier big band, offering students opportunities to perform a wide variety of jazz music and collaborate with renowned guest artists.
