Congresswoman Janelle Bynum (OR-05) voted to pass the bipartisan, bicameral H.R. 6644, 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, through the House, which included three of her bills. The package included the Accelerating Home Building Act, the Appraisal Industry Improvement Act, and the Incentivizing Local Solutions to Homelessness Act. Rep. Bynum's bills will help build more and lower the cost of housing in Oregon and across the country. The package now heads back to the Senate, making it one step closer to becoming law.
"I've been focused on lowering the cost of housing since day one," said Rep. Bynum."These bills put us on track to build the housing we need to finally lower costs. Now we have to move them across the finish line - let's get these bills over to 1600 and make them law."
The Accelerating Home Building Act already passed in the House the first time this package came up for a vote. The inclusion and passage of the Appraisal Industry Improvement Act, and the Incentivizing Local Solutions to Homelessness Act mark the seventh and eight bipartisan bills Rep. Bynum has passed through the House.
Background:
In a recent study of housing affordability and homebuilding, Oregon earned an 'F,' ranking 45th out of the 50 states. It is estimated that Oregon will likely need to build over 140,000 single-family homes by 2030 to meet demand.
In January, in an effort to confront the rising economic pressures on young Americans, U.S. Rep. Janelle Bynum (D-OR) launched her signature "K-30" agenda - a platform focused on supporting young Americans in part by improving access to housing. She is also a member of the House Financial Services Committee and sits on the Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, where she works to address the housing shortage and make life more affordable for Oregon families.
