Reps. Viola Davis, Angie O’Steen to Recognize Nurses Day at the Georgia State Capitol

ATLANTA - State Representatives Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) and Angie O'Steen (R-Ambrose) will recognize Nurses Day at the State Capitol on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, honoring the more than 170,000 registered nurses across Georgia who play a role in protecting the health and well-being of communities throughout the state.

"Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system," said Rep. Davis, a registered nurse with more than 30 years of experience in healthcare. "As someone who has served patients at the bedside and in critical care, I understand firsthand the dedication, compassion and skill nurses bring to every community in Georgia. Recognizing Nurses Day at the Capitol allows us to honor their service and acknowledge the essential role they play in protecting the health and dignity of our citizens."

"Our nurses provide extraordinary care every day in hospitals, clinics, schools and homes across Georgia," said Rep. O'Steen. "Their commitment to patient safety, compassion and excellence strengthens our healthcare system and improves the lives of families throughout our state. I became a registered nurse almost 30 years ago, so it is an honor for us and the entire Georgia House to recognize their dedication and value to our great state."

Earlier this year, Rep. Davis introduced House Resolution 1466, which designates Wednesday, March 11, 2026, as Nurses Day at the Georgia State Capitol. The resolution also acknowledges the work of the Georgia Nurses Association who support and advocate for the many ways in which registered nurses of all levels of education and training strive to provide safe and high-quality patient care and map out ways to improve our healthcare system. Additionally, HR 1466 highlights the increasing demand for nursing services due to an aging population, expanded home health care and the need for stronger access to primary and preventative care across the state.

Reps. Davis and O'Steen invite members of the nursing profession to visit the Georgia State Capitol on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, to meet with legislators and highlight the work nurses perform every day across Georgia.
