Back to school means back to business: American Airlines data highlights growing demand for premium business travel

Corporate travel bookings jump in August and September as companies return to the road and demand for premium travel grows.

FORT WORTH, Texas - As students head back to school and summer vacations wind down, business travelers return to the road (and the skies) for one of the busiest business travel periods of the year. Corporate travel bookings typically surge 35% from August to September, peaking in the last week of September, as companies reconnect with customers and bring teams together.

Whether it's a same-day customer visit or a week-long international trip, today's business travelers need flexibility, convenience and reliable connectivity. While the average business trip lasts nearly five days, more than one in five are completed in a single day, underscoring the need for an airline that can support a wide range of travel needs and deliver a premium experience.

"Fall is an important time for our corporate customers as companies reconnect with clients, bring teams together and focus on finishing the year strong," said American's Senior Vice President of Global Sales Lucas Martin. "We continue to see momentum from our corporate customers, and we're focused on delivering more of what businesses and their travelers value: a strong global network, a premium travel experience, loyalty that rewards both the company and traveler and dedicated support that makes it easy to do business with American."

Premium corporate travel continues to climb

With business travel continuing to grow post-pandemic, more companies and travelers prefer a premium experience, with American's premium corporate travel bookings rising nearly 15% year over year during the 12-month period ending in May 2026.

American is uniquely positioned to serve that demand through one of the world's most comprehensive networks, connecting major business centers across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. The airline offers extensive service in some of the world's most important business corridors, including up to five daily flights between New York (JFK) and London (LHR), more than 10 daily flights between JFK and Los Angeles (LAX), and up to two daily flights between LAX and LHR, giving customers greater choice, convenience and schedule flexibility.

Of course, time is the corporate traveler's most valuable asset. With that in mind, American continues to invest in products and services that help customers stay productive throughout their journey, including complimentary inflight Wi-Fi sponsored by AT&T on most aircraft, premium lounges with dedicated workspaces, enhanced mobile tools and a growing fleet of next-generation aircraft designed around comfort and connectivity.

For those whose business takes them across the globe, American's premium offerings are designed to maximize both comfort and productivity. Complementing its recent debut of the premium-configured Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR, American recently unveiled its first retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER, offering customers their most premium travel experience yet with 70 new Flagship Suite® seats with privacy doors, expanded personal storage and a chaise lounge seating option. That Flagship® experience begins well before boarding, as customers are treated to Priority check-in, security, boarding and baggage handling, as well as Flagship® lounge access.

"Whether it's a same-day trip to close a deal or a weeklong international journey to connect with clients and colleagues, American gives business travelers the network, schedule and premium experience they need to succeed," added Martin.
