Claremont, Sept 19 - Twenty-one students from Owatonna High School's Power and Technology class toured Al-Corn Clean Fuel earlier today.
"We're please to welcome back Owatonna High School to Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association producer member, Al-Corn Clean Fuel. Touring an ethanol plant is a great opportunity for students to learn up-close about possible career options within agriculture and for us to share about the various ways in which our industry benefits the environment, rural economies, fuel costs for Minnesota drivers and supports energy independence," said Brian Werner, executive director at the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association.
During the tour, the students learned about the various stages of ethanol production such as incoming grain grading and handling, fermentation, grain storage and shipment, as well as dried distillers grains with solubles production and shipment.
The tour was organized by the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association.
"My students learned about a sustainable fuel industry while seeing what a large production facility looks like. I wanted them to see there are many ways for a person to get a career they enjoy. I also wanted them to learn about the agriculture side of the industry. In Owatonna, many of the agriculture students don't have the experience of seeing farming and agriculture practices," said Jamie Gray, agriculture education teacher at Owatonna High School.
