City Attorney Wes Duncan Announces Domestic Battery Conviction

The Sparks City Attorney's Office announced that its prosecutor secured a conviction for Tovares Northington of one count of Domestic Battery stemming from an incident that occurred on October 26, 2025.

On October 26, 2025, officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Sparks, Nevada. Officers were dispatched to residence after a female told dispatch that her boyfriend had hit her in the head and that she was bleeding from her ear. While responding to the area, dispatch could hear the female victim screaming.

Upon arrival, officers contacted the female victim who indicated that she had been in a relationship with Northington for a year and a half and lived with him in the residence. Further, she indicated that on this date an argument ensued over $25 which escalated into a physical altercation in the bedroom of the residence. The female victim explained that while she was lying on the bed, Northington began yelling at her, telling her to get out of the house. Northington then approached her and struck her on the right side of her head twice. After being struck, the female victim called the police. Officers observed two lacerations on the female victim's face including one on her right temple and one on the inner part of her right ear's cartilage. Both lacerations were actively bleeding and minor petechiae (signifying broken blood vessels) were observed next to her right ear lobe.

Officers contacted Northington, who denied hitting the victim in the face but confirmed seeing the victim bleeding from the face after an argument over money had ensued and his attempts to get her to leave the residence. Officers noted several inconsistencies in Northington account of the incident. Further, officers contacted a neighbor who provided video surveillance of the interactions between Northington and the female victim before and after the incident which appeared to corroborate the female victim's account of what had occurred.

On December 9, 2025, Senior Assistant City Attorney Ana Swanson represented the City of Sparks and secured a conviction for Domestic Battery against the Defendant.

Sparks City Attorney Wes Duncan stated, "Domestic Battery in all forms must be addressed by the Justice system, and our Office will continue to prosecute these cases to the fullest extent possible."

As result of the conviction, the Defendant was sentenced as follows:
180 Washoe County Jail suspended for two years on the condition he serve 2 days in the Washoe County Jail, complete 48 hours of community service, pay a $200 fine plus administrative assessments, pay a $35 Domestic Violence fee, complete 26 weeks of domestic violence counseling, have no contact with the victim, be tested regularly for drugs and alcohol by the court compliance program, have no drugs or alcohol, and that he obey all laws.
