Rep. Marvin Lim Applauds New Driver Emergency Contact Outreach Following Constituent Recommendation

ATLANTA - State Representative Marvin Lim (D-Norcross) is encouraging Georgians to add an emergency contact to their Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) record following a new statewide DDS education campaign he says grew out of a recommendation from a constituent in his district.

"Earlier this year, a constituent brought the emergency-contact program to my attention and suggested that Georgia do more to promote it," said Rep. Lim. "I reached out to DDS Commissioner Angelique McClendon's office to ask whether Georgia could develop its own educational materials, and DDS agreed to create promotional materials for the program. As a result, DDS launched a new campaign encouraging Georgians to add or update their emergency contacts. Since the campaign was announced in June, I am pleased to see DDS continue to promote the tool through public outreach and social media."

Rep. Lim emphasizes that the emergency contact system allows Georgia drivers and ID card holders to securely provide emergency contact information that authorized law enforcement officers and medical facilities can access when needed. He also notes that adding an emergency contact does not require getting a new driver's license or ID card. He encourages Georgians to add or update their information electronically by following these steps through DDS Online Services:

1. Go to www.dds.georgia.gov and log into Online Services
2. Select Manage Your Profile
3. Select Add Your Emergency Contact.

"This is one of those small things that can make a very real difference when something goes wrong," added Rep. Lim. "My constituent brought us the idea; we took it to DDS, and DDS ran with it. Now I want to make sure people actually use it. I'm grateful to Former DDS Commissioner Spencer R. Moore, DDS Commissioner Angelique McClendon and DDS for taking a constituent's suggestion seriously and turning it into something that can help people statewide. We as Georgians need to take a couple of minutes and add our emergency contact."
