Lane closures to prepare for $33.3 million investment in Genesee, Shiawassee county bridges start Oct. 15

DAVISON, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will implement single-lane closures in both directions of I-69 from I-75 to Morrish Road in Genesee County to build traffic crossovers ahead of future bridge improvement work.

This work is being done to prepare for a $33.3 million investment to improve and repair 15 structures on I-69 between I-75 and Morrish Road in Genesee County as well as two additional structures near Sheridan Road in Shiawassee County. Work will include shallow and deep overlays, partial deck replacements, steel repairs, guardrails and approach work. Work on these bridges is anticipated to begin in early 2026.

Traffic restrictions:
The left lane of I-69 will be closed in order to complete a traffic crossover this fall ahead of the bridge work in Genesee County.

Bridge work will be completed in two construction seasons, beginning in March 2026 and finishing in October 2027.

Additional traffic restrictions for this project will be announced in the future.

Jobs numbers:
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 318 jobs.

Lane closures during this type of work are necessary to provide the safest work area possible for crews and motorists.
