Mrvan’s FY 2027 Economic Development Community Project Funding Requests Approved by House Appropriations Committee

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan announced the House Appropriations Committee has included his economic development Community Project Funding requests for Indiana's First Congressional District in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 House Appropriations measure. The measure has been approved by the House Appropriations Committee, and an identical version of this measure must be approved by both the House and Senate and signed into law by the President in order for it to be enacted.

Congressman Mrvan stated, "I thank all of my colleagues on the House Appropriations Committee for including these critical funds for Indiana's First Congressional District that will grow our regional economy and improve our quality of place. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with Northwest Indiana leaders to return taxpayer dollars that will create new opportunities for more work and wealth for everyone."

Congressman Mrvan's economic development projects included in the FY 2027 House Appropriations measures are specified below:

$2,000,000 - Calumet Region Environmental Infrastructure - funding provides for partnerships between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the communities in Lake and Porter Counties, to address critical water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater sewer infrastructure improvement.

$250,000 - Chesterton Streetscape Project - funding will assist with constructing a multi-use pathway linking the Duneland YMCA Healthy Living Campus to the downtown business district to enhance connectivity, safety, and economic vitality within the town.

$250,000 - Gary/Chicago International Airport - funding will assist in developing the landside infrastructure to support the Air Cargo/Logistics Area.

$1,200,000 - Gary University Park East Neighborhood Stabilization Project - funding will assist the City of Gary through the Gary Redevelopment Commission to demolish the former Franklin Elementary School.

$746,868 - Michigan City Septic Elimination Project - funding will assist the Sanity District of Michigan City with eliminating the risk of failing septic systems that drain into public waterways.

$360,000 - Munster River Bend New Generator Upgrade Project - funding will assist with replacing the existing generator to ensure operational security and emergency preparedness.

$746,868 - Town of Porter Sewer Rehabilitation Project - funding will assist with reducing the potential for overflow events and improving the efficacy and efficiency of the sewer system.

$746,868 - Valparaiso Water Main Replacement Project - funding will assist with replacing an aged, deteriorated water main.
