Charleston, W.Va. - Today, Governor Patrick Morrisey declared a State of Preparedness for all 55 counties as a winter storm is expected to impact the state throughout the upcoming weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for most of the state from Saturday morning through Monday morning. Significant impacts to travel are anticipated, particularly Saturday night into Sunday, as the storm system moves through the region.
The State of Preparedness allows the West Virginia Emergency Management Division (WVEMD) to prepare staff and resources to respond in the event of an emergency. As a result of Wednesday's proclamation, agencies have been placed on standby and are prepared to report to the State Emergency Operations Center if needed.
Governor Morrisey encourages all West Virginians to remain vigilant in preparation for the storm. That means staying alert to changing weather conditions, monitoring local forecasts, and following any guidance or instructions issued by emergency management and public safety officials.
Residents are also encouraged to limit unnecessary travel during hazardous conditions, and take steps to ensure their safety throughout the storm.
