WASHINGTON, D.C. - Oct. 9, 2025 - Today, the U.S. Senate passed H.J. Res. 106, legislation led in the House by Congressman Nick Begich (R-AK) under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn the Biden Administration's restrictive Central Yukon Resource Management Plan (RMP). The measure now heads to the President's desk-marking Congressman Begich's third bill to advance to the White House this Congress.
"The Biden-era Central Yukon plan locked up millions of acres of land and cut off access to resources critical to our national and economic security in Alaska. With Senate passage of this resolution, we are re-opening opportunity in one of Alaska's most impoverished regions," said Congressman Begich. "By continuing to restore Alaska's ability to responsibly develop its own resources, we strengthen America's national security and lower costs for working families across our state. I am proud to see this legislation head to the President's desk and grateful for the work of Senator Murkowski and Senator Sullivan to get this across the finish line as we continue to unlock Alaska's resource potential."
The Central Yukon RMP, finalized in November 2024, replaced land management plans that had been in place since 1991, 1986, and 1981 - imposing sweeping new land-use restrictions across more than 13 million acres of land in one of Alaska's most impoverished regions.
Under the Congressional Review Act, the passage of H.J. Res. 106 immediately invalidates the Biden-era plan, reinstating the previous RMPs that prioritize multiple use, responsible development, and local decision-making. The change reopens access to:
This marks Congressman Begich's third piece of legislation to pass both chambers in the 119th Congress.
H.J. Res. 106 now heads to the President's desk for signature.
