St. Louis, Missouri - Today, Congressman Wesley Bell (D-MO-01) issued the following statement on the need for greater accountability and humane treatment in the practices of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
"Consistent with opposing any expansion of ICE's involvement in local policing, I support local law-enforcement agencies reviewing their 287(g) agreements and considering whether continued participation aligns with community safety, public trust, and the appropriate use of local resources. I also recognize that decisions regarding these agreements must be addressed by the appropriate governing authorities.
I support accountability regarding ICE's involvement in local policing and encourage the appropriate authorities to review the 287(g) agreements. Any request to rescind these agreements should be directed to the officials or governing bodies with the legal authority to make that decision."
