ARLINGTON, Va. - NEMA President and CEO Debra Phillips today welcomed the introduction of the Build American Efficiency Act in the U.S. Senate, the latest bipartisan federal legislation to recognize NEMA's Make It American® domestic content certification program.
"Congress continues to recognize what manufacturers, federal agencies, and infrastructure stakeholders already know: Make It American is a trusted, practical, and independently verified way to demonstrate conformance with domestic content rules.
"We thank Senators Angus King (I-ME), John Curtis (R-UT), Peter Welch (D-VT), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) for their leadership. Their bipartisan legislation builds on growing support for Make It American across Congress and underscores the program's value as a reliable framework for federal investment in American manufacturing and infrastructure.
"This legislation builds on previous recognition from the Federal Highway Administration, the House's bipartisan Build American Efficiency Act, and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's BUILD America 250 Act.
"As policymakers work to strengthen supply chains, expand domestic manufacturing, and maximize the impact of federal investments, Make It American provides manufacturers and government agencies with a clear, credible, consistent framework for verifying domestic content in line with the requirements established by the Build America, Buy America (BABA) Act.
"Next, we will work closely with the champions in the House and Senate to advance this legislation, build on the bipartisan momentum already underway, and help carry it across the finish line to the President's desk. In doing so, Congress can create greater certainty for manufacturers while ensuring federal investment supports American jobs and production."
