Collection Schedule
Trash and recycling are collected every Tuesday throughout the City of Westerville, and yard waste is collected on Mondays. The exceptions are weeks with a Monday or Tuesday holiday. During those weeks refuse and recycling will be collected on Wednesday, and yard waste on Tuesday. Pick up returns to its normal schedule the following week.
Collection is between 7am and 7pm. Sometimes routes and schedules change, and collection may be later at your location than you are used to. That may be normal. However, misses happen.
If your trash, recycling or yard waste are not picked up on the service day, please call (614) 901-6740 the following day to have a Public Service personnel return to your location for collection.
Before setting your recycling out for collection Tuesday morning, learn some of the most common recycling misconceptions and see the recycling process from Westerville through the Rumpke (Waste & Recycling Services) facility in this video:
Yard Waste is collected every Monday throughout the City, except for weeks with a Monday holiday. During those weeks, yard waste is collected on Tuesday. Pick up returns to its normal schedule the following week. Yard Waste is picked up year-round.
Containers can be placed at the curb no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the day before scheduled pick up, but no later the 7:00 a.m. on the day of pick up. Containers must be taken away from the curb and placed back to the home by the morning following pick up day.
Containers
Refuse may be placed in trash cans or plastic bags. Trash cans may be plastic or metal, must be watertight with two handles and a lid, and be no larger than 35-gallon capacity. Household containers, such as small kitchen cans, buckets, or baskets are not acceptable and if set out at curb may be taken by Rumpke along with normal trash. Each container must weigh less than 50 lbs. when full. There is no limit on the number of containers allowed per household.
Recycling should not be placed in plastic bags. It should be placed in the blue recycling carts provided by the city. Each household is provided one recycling cart at no cost. An additional recycling cart may be provided upon request. To request an additional cart or a replacement if cart is damaged contact the Public Service Dept. (614) 901-6740 or email [email protected].You may also use the "Service Request" link provided on the City's website.
Yard Waste should be placed in biodegradable paper bags or unlined trash cans. Twigs or branches up to 2 inches in diameter should be cut into four-foot lengths and bound together with a biodegradable material such as string or twine.
