Let's give a 'We Are!' to these Penn Staters — Dec. 4

As part of our regular "We Are!" feature, we recognize 19 Penn Staters who have gone above and beyond what's asked of them in their work at the University.

This week, on behalf of the entire Penn State community, we'd like to say thank you to:

  • Michelle Beckenbaugh, officer in University Police and Public Safety, whose nominator wrote: "Officer Beckenbaugh goes the extra mile to investigate and solve crime no matter the circumstances. In one week, she was able to solve a case and did so with professionalism and enthusiasm. I was extremely impressed with her follow through and problem-solving abilities. She rocks!"
  • Kimberly Brown, assistant director at the Bennett Family Center, whose nominator wrote: "Kim is dedicated to delivering high-quality early childhood experiences. Her thoughtful leadership at the Bennett Family Center supports children, families and educators through inclusive practices, strong relationships and a commitment to lifelong learning."
  • Mary Campbell, marketing communications specialist in the College of Health and Human Development (HHD), whose nominator wrote: "Mary brings warmth, insight and creativity to her work in the biobehavioral health and the human development and family studies departments. Her storytelling connects audiences to the people and research behind the departments and reflects her genuine care for the subjects she covers."
  • Dave Dorman, application administrator in Penn State IT, whose nominator wrote: "Dave is quick to respond to our IT issues. Any time something isn't working the way it should or doesn't look right, a quick message is sent to Dave and the problem is resolved. He is amazing at his job and so knowledgeable about what he does, which allows us to do our job with minimal interruptions."
  • Kalene Faircloth, assistant director of student services at Penn State Dickinson Law, whose nominator wrote: "Kalene is always willing to go above and beyond to ensure that things get done for the students and co-workers at both law school locations. Kalene works so hard and is very deserving of recognition."
  • Jacinta Garcia, community coordinator at the Paul Robeson Cultural Center at University Park, whose nominator wrote: "Jacinta planned and delivered the events of Indigenous Peoples' Day with enthusiasm, organization and input from students. She managed two guest artists leading different activities in different locations simultaneously, planned a rally in the HUB, and made the day special for everyone."
  • Nikki Gilliam, library operations supervisor at Penn State Great Valley, whose nominator wrote: "Nikki is a tremendous asset to our campus. She is collaborative, supportive and enthusiastic. She creates engaging library displays for students, volunteers to create graphics for campus events and initiatives, and is always eager to develop innovative ways to enhance the student experience."
  • Barbara Kane, licensed practical nurse for University Health Services (UHS), whose nominator wrote: "Barbie joyfully takes on being the UHS homecoming chair each year. She fundraises all year long, purchases all the materials needed, designs and constructs our homecoming float and does it all with a gigantic smile on her face. She inspires all of us to be Penn State Proud!"
  • Carrie Little, engaged learning specialist in the College of Health and Human Development (HHD), whose nominator wrote: "Carrie has had an outstanding impact over the past year in advancing our engaged learning initiatives. Carrie's dedication to increasing access to meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities continues to enrich our students' academic and personal growth. Go Carrie!"
  • Eric Lindquist, culinary support specialist at University Park, whose nominator wrote: "We're so lucky to have Mr. Eric, a talented kitchen chef at the Child Care Center at Hort Woods! He cooks with love and creativity, wears fun themed shirts that make the kids smile, and is always ready with a warm hug. Thank you, Mr. Eric, for all the joy and care you share for both our hearts and our tummies!"
  • Alexandria Luneke, associate director of campus recreation, a division of Student Affairs, whose nominator wrote: "Alex's time, patience and ability to onboard two new employees at the same time while managing her position is truly amazing! She is a standout in the department and a great role model for our new employees. Thank you, Alex, for all that you do."
  • Teresa McCloskey, unit coordinator overseeing University Police and Public Safety's Student Auxiliary Officer program at University Park, whose nominator wrote: "Teresa is a dedicated leader! She coordinates the University's student auxiliary police and mentors these courageous students. She adds to her job by volunteering for the University Staff Advisory Council and as co-chair of the Penn State Cares Employee Resource Group."
  • Emory McKenna, administrative support assistant in the college of Health and Human Development (HHD), whose nominator wrote: "Emory always brings a positive attitude to his work and keeps the HHD outreach staff connected. He also goes above and beyond what is asked, producing high-quality documents and spreadsheets that support our work and trying to identify new ways we can collaborate. Emory is the ultimate team player!"
  • Christine Ostrosky, administrative support assistant at Penn State Hazleton, whose nominator wrote: "Chrissy goes above and beyond - supporting other departments, guiding students as co-advisor to THON, and uplifting our Student Services and Engagement team. She truly embodies Penn State's 'We Are' spirit every day!"
  • Jennifer Rankin, learning center coordinator at Penn State New Kensington, whose nominator wrote: "Jenn provides exceptional support to students through her multiple roles, providing workshops, academic coaching and trainings."
  • Rebecca Simcik, senior director of University Health Services (UHS), whose nominator wrote: "Since stepping into her role, Rebecca has made a remarkable impact. She has uplifted staff morale, fostered a more inclusive environment, and consistently sought out ways to enhance the student experience at UHS. She is a true leader in every sense of the word!"
  • Hannah Soden, student engagement specialist in Student Leadership and Involvement, a division of Student Affairs, whose nominator wrote: "Hannah's dedication to supporting student organizations, streamlining funding and fostering inclusive participation has greatly impacted campus life. Her commitment to empowering students and enhancing leadership experiences showcases her vital contribution to Penn State students!"
  • Michelle Spaide, event supervisor at the Bryce Jordan Center and an area director for security at Beaver Stadium, whose nominator wrote: "I took my two kids to their first Penn State game. When my son got ill, Michelle came to our rescue - helping us clean up, comforting my daughter and showing genuine care for all of us. Her warmth and kindness turned a tough moment into something special. Penn State is lucky to have her."
  • Xingjian "Jeffrey" Zhao, student advocacy specialist at Penn State Global, whose nominator wrote: "As a staff exchange member to Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) in South Korea, Jeffrey showed exceptional initiative, actively engaging with staff to strengthen institutional partnerships. His leadership on the staff advisory committee's special events was outstanding, especially in utilizing technology through his creativity."
