As an EU member state and a NATO ally, Bulgaria stands ready to contribute to find solutions to achieve peace and security. This was the position of Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at today's informal meeting of the EU Heads of State or Government. In his view, Ukraine's security is an integral part of Europe's security. In this context, it is important to maintain the momentum to achieve peace in close coordination between and among the United States, the European Union and Ukraine.
Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov welcomed the consistent efforts of the United States and of President Trump to achieve a ceasefire and a just and lasting peace while he emphasized the importance of close cooperation with the EU and Ukraine without which it would be impossible to achieve this goal. In Rossen Jeliazkov's view, the approach to the negotiations and their outcome would have deep-going and long-term consequences for both European and global security.
It is the Ukrainian people who must determine its own future.
We must continue to work with our partners from the United States and Ukraine to ensure that any peace agreement is properly implemented, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said firmly. In his view, Ukraine needs reliable guarantees for its long-term security. At the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed, inter alia, the importance of Ukraine's European integration.
