Choose How You Move Advances Next Phase of Capital Projects

Choose How You Move (CHYM) announced today a $100 million capital investment package, advancing projects that improve safety, modernize traffic operations, expand transit, and strengthen Nashville's transportation network. The package includes new investments as well as continued progress on voter-approved initiatives, including the Nolensville Pike and Gallatin Pike All-Access Corridors.

This announcement builds on the program's October 2025 funding package, which committed $104 million to transportation improvements across Nashville. These projects expand sidewalks and Complete Streets, modernize traffic signal technology, strengthen transit infrastructure and service, and move major corridors forward.

"Across Nashville, Choose How You Move is turning plans into projects people can see and use," said Mayor Freddie O'Connell. "From new sidewalks to safer streets to more transit options, these investments are making it safer, easier, and cheaper for people to get where they need to go."

"Every one of these investments means that a Nashvillian is better able to walk to school, ride the bus to work, bike to their local coffee shop, or safely get to a doctor's appointment."

Major Investments

• Continued advancement of the Nolensville Pike and Gallatin Pike/Main Street All-Access Corridors.
• Planning for future transit centers to improve transit connectivity and reliability.
• Modernization of traffic signals along major corridors.
• Expansion of the WeGo fleet.
• Construction of the Donelson Transit Center.
• Continued investment in sidewalks and Complete Streets throughout Davidson County.

This investment package is also organized around the core building blocks of the program: sidewalks, signals, service, and safety.

Sidewalks: $16.8 million

Prioritization of 61 sidewalks at various phases of development to close gaps in the pedestrian network, improve safety and accessibility, and create more connected routes to transit, schools, parks, neighborhoods, and other everyday destinations.

• Quick Build Sidewalks - Fast tracking 17 new sidewalk projects across 15 council districts into planning and design.
• Utility Technology -Initiating survey and data work on 34 additional sidewalk projects and investing in new technology to better identify utilities.
• Additional Sidewalks and Project Work - Planning and design on four additional sidewalks on Due West Ave., Robinson Rd, and Murfreesboro Pike. Additional project work will include engineering, utility coordination, right-of-way acquisition, railroad coordination, and construction management.

Signals and Traffic Operations: $19.0 million

Traffic signal investments modernize Nashville's transportation network by upgrading aging infrastructure, expanding real-time traffic management technology, and preparing the city for a fully connected signal network.

• Corridor Signal Modernization: $7.9 million - Installation of 99 new traffic signals across Gallatin Pike (56), Wedgewood Avenue (6), Edgehill Avenue (5), and Hillsboro Pike (32) to improve safety, reduce delays, and support reliable travel.
• Advanced Traffic Management System: $2 million - Signal deployment enabling real-time traffic management, advanced bike and pedestrian recognition, incident response, transit signal priority, and smarter operations for Downtown, Harding Place, Lebanon Pike, Nolensville Pike, Murfreesboro Pike.
• Fiber Communications Network: $4.5 million - Network hardware enabling real-time data sharing and future intelligent mobility technology,
• Signal Network: $3.0 million - Long-lead hardware procurement to accelerate future construction and modernization of signals citywide.

Transit Service and Infrastructure: $29.8 million

Transit investments in this package expand the capacity, connectivity, and reliability of Nashville's transit network through new transit centers, fleet expansion, and infrastructure that support future service growth. Together, these projects strengthen regional connections, improve rider experience, and create a more resilient transit system.

• Transit Center Expansion: $25.3 million - Donelson Transit Center construction, and future site selection and project development.
• WeGo Access Fleet Expansion: $750,000 - Purchase of 3 new paratransit vehicles.
• Facility Improvements: $3.7 million - Capital investments in WeGo's existing Nestor Street operations and maintenance facility.

The latest fleet expansion investment of buses brings the total to twenty-one of 65 planned buses that have been purchased to enhance service for WeGo Access customers.

Safety: $22.4 million

Complete Streets investments advance the transformation of Nashville's roadways into safer, more connected corridors for everyone, regardless of how they travel. Together, these projects support planning, design, and construction of safer crossings, protected bikeways, accessible sidewalks, and transit-supportive improvements.

• Complete Streets: $22.4 million
  • Full construction of Edgehill Avenue
  • Design funds for 4 Complete Street Projects across 8 miles: East Thompson Lane, County Hospital Road, Jefferson Street, and Lebanon Pike
  • Initiating survey on nearly 34 miles of Complete Street projects

All-Access Corridors: $7.7 million

All-Access Corridor investments advance planning and project development for Nashville's busiest roadways, creating safer, more connected corridors with frequent transit, smarter traffic signals, improved pedestrian crossings, multimodal connections, and accessible streets for everyone. Together, these investments lay the foundation for faster, more reliable travel while supporting housing, jobs, and economic growth along key transportation corridors.

• Nolensville Pike: $4.5 million - Planning and project development.
• Gallatin Pike: $1.3 million - Planning and project development.
• Transit-Oriented Development Study: $500,000 -Initiate program-wide planning framework for how Nashville will grow around high-quality transit.

Projects included in each capital investment package are evaluated using a range of factors, including safety concerns and crash history, transportation needs and barriers, connections to major destinations and employment centers, readiness for implementation, and opportunities to maximize the impact of other local, state, and federal transportation investments. Project selection is also guided by the Advisory Committee on Transportation's Core Values and Implementation Principles , which emphasize equitable, transparent, and effective program delivery. These considerations help ensure investments are directed toward projects that deliver meaningful benefits for residents across Davidson County while advancing the long-term vision approved by voters.

With today's action, Choose How You Move has committed a total of $220 million toward transportation capital improvements since the half-cent sales surcharge began on February 1, 2025.

This investment package builds on the 11 foundational projects announced by Mayor Freddie O'Connell in March 2025 to jumpstart implementation of CHYM. Combined with Metro's traditional capital investments, these funds accelerate established programs such as Vision Zero, sidewalk construction, traffic operations, and Complete Streets while advancing transformational initiatives like All-Access Corridors and expanded transit infrastructure.
