Prepare for Winter Weather This Week

The Nashville Office of Emergency Management is activating cold patrols to serve our vulnerable neighbors in dangerously cold temperatures expected across the area this week.

During these patrols, teams will check on areas known to be inhabited by the unhoused, offering transportation to shelters, providing winter kits with essential supplies to stay warm, and connecting individuals with additional resources.

According to the Nashville office of the National Weather Service (NWS), we should prepare for especially cold mornings, with temperatures and wind chills dropping into single digits and teens. These conditions increase the risk of cold-related illnesses, particularly for individuals without adequate shelter.

NWS reports that temperatures are expected to gradually warm beginning Wednesday, but cold conditions will persist through the early part of the week.

Cold patrols will focus on outreach, wellness checks, and connecting individuals experiencing homelessness with available warming resources.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through local weather updates and to report anyone in need of assistance during extreme cold conditions.
