The Foreign Ministry hosted the workshop “Aging and Demand for Care in Central and Eastern Europe”

The workshop "Aging and Demand for Care in Central and Eastern Europe: Determinants, Challenges, and Possible Responses over the Next Ten Years" took place today in the "Aldo Moro" Hall of the Foreign Ministry. The workshop focused on the main demographic trends and the prospects for responding to them by healthcare and social systems in Central and Eastern European countries.

The meeting brought together institutional representatives, academics, and international experts, including the President of the "Fondazione Età Grande," Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia; the First Lady of Serbia, T. Vucic; the Deputy Minister for Social Affairs of Ukraine, I. Solodka; and the Rector of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, N. Levialdi Ghiron.

The workshop - which also saw the participation of the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Maria Tripodi - explored the factors impacting on the growing demand for care, the challenges facing healthcare services for the elderly people, and possible responses over the next ten years, with specific attention to the integration of social and healthcare assistance, long-term care, equity in access to services, and healthy aging. The workshop also provided an opportunity to discuss best practices and possible joint responses to the challenges posed by an aging population, in view of cooperation and the exchange of experiences among the participating countries.
