Reliable Counter-Terrorism partnerships is top EU priority

As the threat from violent extremism is ongoing, fighting terrorism is one of the top priorities for EU member states and its partners.

The focus of the EU's diplomatic efforts is to create partnerships because security at home depends on peace and stability beyond the borders of the EU.

EU diplomacy focuses on building partnerships and addressing the root causes of terrorism. Counter-terrorism strategies work through partner organisations such as the United Nations, African Union and regional bodies to develop, training, and capacity-building.

While the hard work of cutting off finances and pursuing terrorists by legal means continues every day, there is also a need for political dialogue between partners who work together on sanctions, arrests, intelligence and border control.

Multilateralism

The EU is boosting operational cooperation through multilateral and bilateral partnerships with key regions. This kind of engagement allows the EU to continue to shape multilateral policies and to respond to new and emerging threats from global terrorism.
