AVMF, VPRF announce veterinary pharmacology fellowship recipient

The Veterinary Pharmacology Research Foundation (VPRF) and American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) have awarded the 2025 VPRF-AVMF Veterinary Pharmacology Fellowship to Juliana Sullivan, a dual DVM-PhD student at the University of California-Davis.

"When I entered veterinary school, I did not anticipate that research would become such a central and rewarding part of my career path," said Sullivan, who wants to pursue a career in equine clinical pharmacology research.

She plans to use the award for pharmacokinetic analysis software for her research and to attend an international conference.

The Veterinary Pharmacology Research Foundation and American Veterinary Medical Foundation Veterinary Pharmacology Fellowship is a one-year program for students enrolled in either a master's of science or PhD program at a U.S.-based academic institution. All applicants must be members of the American Academy of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

This recognition not only affirms her career goals and commitment to impactful clinical pharmacology, she said, but also motivates her to give back to the field through mentorship.

"Experiences like this have been instrumental in shaping my career path, and I hope to one day provide the same kind of support and encouragement to future graduate students in veterinary pharmacology," Sullivan said.

Each year, the fellowship awards up to $10,000 to a graduate student pursuing a career in veterinary pharmacology to fund training, stipends, and other professional or scholarly activities. The VPRF-AVMF Veterinary Pharmacology Fellowship is designed to enhance both the number and caliber of trained veterinary pharmacology researchers.
