The initial investigation revealed ther drivers of an Audi RS5 and a Porsche 911 GTS were involved in a high speed street race traveling south on McCarran. Both vehicles ran the red light at McCarran and Rock striking an uninvolved Toyota pickup that was lawfully in the intersection. The crash caused catastrophic damage to all vehicles. All six occupants of the victim vehicle were transported by EMS. The juvenile driver of the Porsche as well as the adult driver and passenger of the Audi were also transported by EMS. Numerous occupants were admitted due to injuries. An 84 year old occupant from the victim vehicle is in critical condition.
S. Rock and McCarran will be closed for several more hours while detectives conduct the investigation.
The Reno Police Department M.A.I.T. (Major Accident Investigation Team) is handling the investigation.
