Deputy Minister of Defence Conducts Inspections of Army Ordnance Depots

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), undertook a two-day inspection tour of key Sri Lanka Army ammunition and ordnance storage facilities.

The Deputy Minister was accompanied by the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) and the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo. Subsequently, he inspected the ammunition storage areas, where he reviewed the current operational and security conditions of the complex.

He also chaired a high-level meeting attended by senior officers, where a range of critical issues, including the enhancement of safety and security protocols, development of emergency response plans, strengthening coordination with external agencies, streamline the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure smooth functioning, accountability and regulatory compliance, were taken up for discussion.

The Ministry together with other law enforcement agencies will continue to take proactive steps to monitor, assess and enhance security around the island including at all military facilities in line with its national objectives.
