Governor Hobbs Announces Appointment of Douglas R. Camacho to Mohave County Superior Court

Phoenix, AZ - Today, Governor Katie Hobbs announced the appointment of Douglas R. Camacho to the Mohave County Superior Court. Judge Camacho has served as a commissioner and judge pro tempore on the court since 2015. From 2005 to 2015, he served as a deputy county attorney in the Mohave County Attorney's Office. He received a JD from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2000 and an LLM from the University of Arizona in 2022.

"With over a decade of service on the Mohave County Superior Court, Judge Camacho is well suited to take on this new role," said Governor Katie Hobbs. "He has shown immense dedication to his community both inside and outside of the court room, and I am confident he will continue his excellent record of public service."

Judge Camacho's appointment is to fill the vacancy created by the creation of an eighth judicial division for the Mohave County Superior Court. The Mohave County Board of Supervisors voted on January 6, 2025 to petition Governor Hobbs to add the new division pursuant to Article VI, Section 10 of the Arizona Constitution and A.R.S. § 12-121. Governor Hobbs approved that request on March 6, and the new division became effective July 1.

Under Arizona's Constitution, Superior Court judges in counties with a population of less than 250,000 people are elected by the voters. However, vacancies created by the establishment of a new division or by the retirement or resignation of a judge are filled by gubernatorial appointment until the next general election.
