LYNBROOK, NY - Yesterday, Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) joined Lynbrook Chief of Police and Lynbrook Roller Hockey League President Brian Paladino and Lynbrook Mayor Alan Beach to announce $850,000 in new federal Community Project Funding (CPF) she secured through the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations process. The new funding will help fund a new all-weather roof for the Lynbrook roller hockey rink, allowing the rink to be accessible and protected year-round.
Additionally, Rep. Gillen awarded a congressional certification to John Szlai, a high school senior in the roller hockey league who received a college scholarship in recognition of his commitment and dedication to the league and community.
"I am proud to have secured $850,000 in new federal funding to help transform Lynbrook's roller hockey rink into a year-round resource for families across Nassau County," said Rep. Gillen. "This investment will expand recreational opportunities and give law enforcement a reliable space to mentor our youth and build deeper connections with the community. As a hockey mom, I was proud to fight for and bring these tax dollars back home for this project. I look forward to seeing many more happy years on this rink."
This federal investment will support the acquisition and installation of an all-weather canopy equipped with lighting over the existing outdoor roller hockey rink. The project will expand recreational opportunities for families across Nassau County, improve access to the rink, and allow for year-round programming and events. In addition, the Lynbrook Police Department plans to utilize the facility for a year-round youth sports and community outreach program, creating additional opportunities for local law enforcement to engage with residents and strengthen community relationships.
This investment also received letters of support from Rich Lopos, President of the Nassau County Police Activity League and Village of Lynbrook Deputy Mayor Michael Hawxhurst.
The funding for Lynbrook is part of more than $13 million in Community Project Funding that Rep. Gillen secured for Nassau County to invest in community infrastructure, enhance public safety and improve the quality of life for residents across the district.
