WASHINGTON, DC (November 12, 2025) - Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 5371, the Continuing Appropriations, Agriculture, Legislative Branch, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Extensions Act, 2026.
"Today, I made the decision to vote against the Republican Continuing Resolution because it fails to address the rising cost of living and the escalating healthcare crisis our nation is facing. In my district, where more than 10,000 federal workers have endured the uncertainty of the longest shutdown in American history, constituents are demanding that Congress protect federal jobs, safeguard vital programs, and ensure affordable healthcare for all. This legislation falls short and neglects the needs of hardworking Americans.
"While I am relieved that millions of families who rely on SNAP and WIC will finally receive their overdue benefits to help put food on the table, Trump's continued efforts to use these families as bargaining chips have been deplorable. Congress must pass long-term funding bills that responsibly fund our government and prevent politicians from using the most vulnerable members of our communities as political pawns.
"Healthcare is a right, and every American deserves access to affordable, high-quality care. I will continue to fight in every way possible to lower everyday costs and expand access to healthcare. Any budget proposal that ignores this, like the one we voted on today, is simply insufficient."
